In 2008, Bruntwood invested £38m in transforming this Manchester icon into one of the city's most prestigious and desirable office locations with an M1 postcode. A complete refurbishment, designed by renowned architects Stephenson Bell, has created a distinctive and sophisticated working environment that meets the best contemporary standards, including high speed lifts, air conditioning and high quality specifications throughout.

The last few suites of fully-fitted work space now remain in City Tower. Sitting astride a contemporary public mall space linking Piccadilly Gardens with New York Street, City Tower is right at the heart of the city’s business life, with a bustling transport interchange just a few yards away giving immediate access to Manchester’s wider transport network and the main shopping and leisure areas close by. New York Street was created through a partnership with Manchester city council and resulted in a £1.4m investment to upgrade the streetscape with improved paving, lighting, street furniture and landscaping.

City Tower boasts Manchester's largest office reception space at 1,400 sq ft providing an impressive entrance for your clients whilst reducing the impact on business by preventing overcrowding at peak times during the day. There is also an additional manned reception desk at car deck level on the second floor enabling us to provide staff and visitors with the same standard of service that they receive when entering the main reception area at ground floor level.

Interesting facts

City Tower was originally constructed in 1965 and is still the third tallest building in the city.

The building stands 30 stories high and is 107m tall to its roof level, although the antenna on top of the building takes its overall height to 123m. Although not the tallest building in the city, City Tower does currently boast the highest commercial office space in Manchester on its 28th floor. City Tower is also one of Manchester’s main broadcast transmission sites, and hosts the antennae of many a local radio station.

The unusual relief pattern on the side of the building is an original feature and was inspired by the circuit boards of the world’s first computer, which was built at the University of Manchester. Since 2005, City Tower has also been home to two peregrine falcons that have nested at the top of the building.
