Opened in 1969, Furness House was purpose-built for original owners Manchester Liners, and was designed to resemble the bridge of a ship. In recognition of the shipping links between Manchester and Canada a 32 foot totem pole stood outside the main entrance for many years, until wood rot took its toll. Carved by a member of the Kwaktiutl tribe in North America, the pole was presented as a gift and featured symbolic representations such as an eagle for the tribe’s solidarity, a killer whale to represent the mastery of the seas and a raven messenger symbolising trade.
The people below are responsible for the smooth running of the building and making customers’ lives as easy and enjoyable as possible. As you can see from the testimonials throughout the site, our current customers find them invaluable.
