Waste Less. Pay Less. Damage Less.
Tackling environmental issues is high on the agenda for a lot of companies and as a responsible business, we are no exception. The difference is we are doing it in a way that both reduces our impact on the environment and delivers better value for money for our office and serviced office customers.
Our approach is simple. Wasteful consumption results in wasteful expenditure which has an unnecessary cost to our business, our customers’ businesses and the environment. Our Green Schemes are designed to minimize our impact on the environment and deliver long term value for money for our customers. In parallel with our efforts to reduce emissions in the immediate term, we are playing a key part in informing a climate adaptation strategy that will help our cities adapt to a changing climate.
> An eco friendly office
In the short term we are working hard to eliminate waste from all aspect of our business to ensure we offer our customers maximum value for money and eco friendly offices. To deliver tangible results, we’re starting with the basics and have set challenging targets in the areas of recycling and energy consumption.
With a target of recycling 65% of the waste that’s generated in our office buildings by the end of 2009, we've launched a recycling programme for all our office and serviced office customers. The scheme will save our office customers £1m over three years through reduced landfill taxes by removing the cost of their individual recycling contracts. We have also committed to reducing energy consumption in our office buildings by 10% p.a until 2010, through a combination of leading technology and pro-active facilities management. We have invested in Smart Metre technology that will help our customers understand how much energy they are using and more importantly, where it is being wasted. With this information our facilities management team can help them drive down their energy costs and reduce emissions.

> Investing in our cities future
In keeping with our long term approach and our commitment to the economic and environmental vitality our regions, we’ve partnered with The University of Manchester on a pioneering climate change project, Eco Cities.
This five year partnership will produce a blueprint for a climate change adaptation strategy for our region. It will also compliment our existing knowledge of developing low carbon, eco friendly office buildings that are resilient to future temperature increases and more extreme weather.
