They are also responsible for the office building’s day-to-day management meaning you’ll be free to concentrate on running your business. Wilderspool is built on Roman ruins from the Antoine period 80AD. Thomas Greenall, who started brewing in 1762 at Hardshaw near St Helens, purchased Wilderspool in 1787 with two partners for £4,429. Following his death in 1807 the business was left to his three sons and they fast became the biggest brewers out side ‘The Big Six.’ The Malt Building at Wilderspool was used to store the malt in the beer making process. There are three wells on the Wilderspool site and the river that runs underneath the car park is built on a branch of the Mersey which was backfilled when the ship canal was built in the 1890’s. Remains of the old loading dock can still be seen near Wilderspool.
