The Royal Northern College of Music
The RNCM has long been recognised as one of the regions finest musical colleges, producing consistently highly quality musicians and performances. These factors were to prove strong foundations to our partnership as once again we had found the common goal of developing new, world-class talent.
In 2003 we agreed a 5-year partnership that would see a Theatre named 'The Bruntwood Theatre' and give as opportunities to involve our staff, customers and suppliers at 3 key events each year. These events were purposely diverse, catering for a wide spectrum of tastes - a very important factor given the high culture reputation of some genres.
The result has been a structured annual programme comprising The Big Band Concert, The Opera and The Jazz Improvisation Concert that also serves as an examination event for the students who each take turn to play solo throughout the concert. Once again in keeping with our desire to grow and nurture new talent we finance the Bruntwood Prize, which is awarded to the best student on the night.
Throughout our partnership we have also provided students with numerous opportunities to perform as part of our broader events programme, significantly adding to the quality of our events and also providing live experience to students.
In 2005 Bruntwood's Chairman, Michael Oglesby, was appointed Chairman of the RNCM.
