Nearly a year ago, Bruntwood’s development team made a fantastic contribution to the Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity fund when they raised over £40,000, running the New York Marathon.
Emulating this success will be no easy task; another marathon for example, just wouldn’t capture people’s imagination in the same way as before.
To raise this level of funds again Bruntwood realised they needed the right event. After much thought and deliberation, it has been decided that they will tackle the famous “Race to the Sun”
The Paris to Nice cycle Race, nicknamed ‘Race to the Sun’ is an annual Pro Tour Cycling race, first held in 1933 and apart from the war years has run annually ever since. The event is held in March, kicking off in Paris and finishing in Nice a week later, a distance of some 900km.
Nobody at Bruntwood is a professional cyclist and therefore won’t be eligible to compete in the actual race. However, it has been decided that a hand picked and intrepid team will complete the same course the professional riders compete on, within the same seven-day time frame, over the first week in May 2008.
The main aim is clear and that is to repeat the success of the New York Marathon Team and raise over £40,000 towards the Manchester Children’s Hospital. However, it will also be about having a fun and personally rewarding experience.
The physical and mental demands of this trip are not to be underestimated; it’s a considerable distance to be covered with rides lasting several hours each day, some of which will be over two of France’s larger mountain ranges, the Massif Central and the French Alps.
Currently, Bruntwood’s charity team are planning out the event in detail, so stay tuned to learn more about how we make progress over the coming months.
