On 21st November, Bruntwood released CGI images of their latest project, The Exchange, in Manchester’s city centre. Formerly Rutherford House on York Street, the building is set to undergo a £6m complete redevelopment, turning it into 41,257 sq.ft (3,833m2) of high specification office space, ready for occupation in Autumn 2007.
Bruntwood appointed Stephenson Bell architects in 2006 to come up with an appropriate design to turn Rutherford House, a rather drab and innocuous telephone exchange, into contemporary office space over 5 floors.
The building will continue to function as a telephone Exchange, with much of the ground floor devoted to this function, but the remaining 5 floors will be converted into office space, all of which is scheduled to benefit from raised floors, air-conditioning, LG3 lighting and floor to ceiling glazing.
Peter Crowther, Bruntwood’s Development Director, commented, “The Exchange is one of 11 large scale projects that we are currently working on in Manchester’s City Centre and the building forms yet another crucial part in our redevelopment of York Street, which is soon to be renamed New York Street. We’re confident our plans are going to give the building a new lease of life and the scheme visuals support this.”
The Exchange is yet another Bruntwood development on York Street, where Bruntwood now owns all the buildings. These include the 610,000 sq.ft City Tower complex and the 100,000 sq.ft new build No.1 New York Street, which is scheduled to complete in Summer 2009.
