The breakfast presentation, held at McLaren, Bruntwood’s latest office development in the city, marked the launch of a series of quarterly events the company will hold to focus on key issues in the region.
The morning saw Chris Oglesby, chief executive of Bruntwood, present details of their recent work and future plans in the city. Stephen Quinlan, managing director of architects Denton Corker Marshall, held a discussion around the new law courts development at Eastside.
Stephen Quinlan indicated that the Magistrates Courts at Masshouse is now the number one UK project priority for the government, with the project due to receive final sign off next month. Sharing their plans for the law courts, it was confirmed that the development will begin in March 2009 with a scheduled finish date of 2012. Having already designed Manchester's Law Courts at Spinningfields, Quinlan went on to explain the Birmingham plans have been based on their work in the capital.
Regarding the future of the Midlands Business Breakfast, Chris Oglesby said, “We’re exceptionally keen to play an integral part in the city’s future and allied to our property plans for the city, these breakfast events are a great way to help integrate the business community further. Bringing a group of likeminded people together to discuss topics key to Birmingham’s long-term development will hopefully go someway to achieve this.”
Bruntwood bought Mclaren two years ago, and embarked on a £7m re-development project to completely refurbish the building, including a brand new reception and bridge link entrance to Priory Queensway.
