Wilderspool is built on Roman ruins from the Antoine period 80AD. Thomas Greenall purchased Wilderspool in 1787 with two partners for £4,429; he had started brewing in 1762 at Hardshaw near St Helens. Following Greenall’s death in 1807 the business was left to his three sons and they fast became the biggest brewers out side ‘THE BIG SIX.’ The Whitehouse Business Centre was the Greenall’s family residence and was later converted into offices. The Malt Building at Wilderspool was used to store the malt in the beer making process and The Brewhouse held the vat’s where the fermentation took place and was know at the time as the Victoria Brewhouse. Quayside was a later addition, built in the 1960’s and was used as laboratories and the Clock Tower that was been part of Greenalls Brewery has since been converted into flats. There are three wells on the Wilderspool site and a river that runs underneath and the Car Park is built on a branch of the Mersey, which was backfilled when the ship canal was built in the 1890s. The Old Loading Dock remains can still be seen near Wilderspool.
The people below are responsible for the smooth running of the building and making customers’ lives as easy and enjoyable as possible. As you can see from the testimonials throughout the site, our current customers find them invaluable.
