> History
Much of the Booths Park estate’s colourful history revolves around the infamous deeds of John de Legh (in the 14th century), who earned the nickname ‘John the Bad’. Sir John led a group of country gentry on innumerable criminal raids, yet although his guilt was never in doubt, he was pardoned for various crimes including the looting of Manchester under the pretext of helping King Edward II; yet, he somehow contrived to become the Duke of Lancaster’s steward in 1354!
