Building management
Keeping our properties in prime condition is a vital part of ensuring that they operate effectively and meet our customers expectations at all times.
The building management team is responsible for looking after the structure and fabric of all of our properties and making sure they always meet the high standard that we set ourselves. This can range from devising and undertaking planned preventative maintenance programmes and HVAC upgrades to dealing with day-to-day issues as they arise. This team is also leading on the work we are doing to reduce our carbon footprint, investigating and implementing the most effective solutions to how we heat, light and power our buildings for the future.
Here's what some of the team members have to say about working at Bruntwood:
“The best thing about working at Bruntwood is the amount of trust and confidence that other people have in you to achieve what sometimes even you didn’t think you were capable of. During my 5 years with Bruntwood, I have worked in a variety of different roles, many of which were completely new to me and presented me with huge personal challenges. Because of this, I’ve learned so much and worked with different teams of amazing people who have encouraged me and helped me to develop and grow in so many ways both personally & professionally.
Now I feel I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. This is such an exciting time; the Central Helpdesk has very quickly established itself and has become instrumental in many of the changes and new developments that are happening both centrally and out in our buildings. Working with so many other departments across the business keeps things interesting, I’m always learning from other people. It feels really good to be part of something from the very beginning that has so many possibilities for growth. The Buildings Management Department is constantly evolving and I am inspired by the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead.”
Lorryn Stewart, Resource Manager
“As an integral part of the Facilities Management team, I have been able to explore and gain significant experience in the diverse disciplines of building surveying. I have been involved in large strategic, structural, fabric, mechanical, electrical and environmental projects providing sufficient, sustainable infrastructure to our buildings. In addition undertaking reactive building services/fabric maintenance which includes the provision of cost effective remedial solutions. Being given the responsibility to manage projects of such a nature is a reward in itself.
The FM team is a strong, technical team with a wealth of diverse knowledge. Learning from my colleagues as well as contractors, architects and quantity surveyors has been key to my development over the past 2 years. This progression has given me the confidence to take ownership of the building group which I manage and overcome the challenges of the day to day issues as well as deliver complex, technically challenging projects to budget and within the proposed timescale to meet our customer expectations. Working as an FM Building Surveyor, you will gain the necessary experience to complete your APC.
Bruntwood promote a work-life ethos through regular social, professional learning and charity events. Events such as ten pin bowling nights, football tournaments and CPD days such as are organised and encouraged which has allowed me to develop professionally and socially, a key requirement of any surveyor.”
